British Airways app for Windows Phone 7

Microsoft has showcased the British Airways application on Windows Phone 7 Mango, and it looks very impressive

British Airways has showcased its app on Windows Phone 7 Mango.

The BA app looks like one of the most impressive app yet on Windows Phone 7. Not only can you check your flight status from the homescreen, you can view al the details about the next trip you’re booked on, including your boarding pass and seat reservation

If you’re already booked on the flight, you can change your seat via a 3D aeroplane interface (powered by the handset’s graphics processor) and take a look at the movies playing. The former feature won’t be available from the start though – it will land when the Mango is released in the Autumn.

Tap on one of the movies and you’re taken to Bing, where you can read reviews, and view ratings.

Scroll through your future flights if you have more than one booked and take a look at your frequent flier accounts, straight from the app, including how many points you have.

The application matches the style of Windows Phone 7, making it easy to use for any accustomed Windows Phone 7 user. Everything is a left or right swipe away.

The BA app is one of the applications where you can use a new Windows Phone Mango shortcutting feature. It’s pretty likely that if you’re about to get on a flight, you’ll want to have your boarding pass easy to access and present to security. You can add a shortcut to your homescreen on a tile that will take you instantly to the boarding pass part of the app, making it quicker to present to airport staff.

The BA app isn’t just for those who frequently fly with BA though. We’d say it’s necessary if you even have one trip planned with the airline. It really is that good!

BA and Microsoft have announced the application will be available from June 1, 2011. You will have to wait until the Mango update in the Autumn for features like the 3D seat finder, though.
