The BBC has launched its news application for the Android platform

The BBC has launched its news app on Android in the UK.

Like the iPad app the Android BBC news application is only available to UK users.

The app means you can view and share all the top news stories wherever you are, in a simple to use format.

The BBC news app has social networking at its core, allowing you to post news stories on a range of social networks or email links to stories using the email application on your Android device. you can also send the link via SMS.

Once you have the BBC news app open, you can tap to reveal the full screen article and view in-article video too.

Like on the full desktop BBC news site, you can change the homescreen of the app according to your preferences, so if you’d rather have all the sports news at the top and worldwide news at the bottom, you can do this.

The BBC app features the same categories as the BBC website, so you can choose to read anything from Top stories, World, UK, Sport, Technology, Entertainment & Arts, England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Business, Politics, Health, Education, Science & Environment, Features & analysis and Also in the news.

The BBC news app will dynamically update in the background, so you when you open the app, all the latest content will show. |This will use your data and battery though, so only allow live updating if you have an all-you-can-eat data plan enabled.

The BBC News app for Android is available to download for free from Android Market now.
