Apple App Store hits half a million apps
Apple’s App Store now has more than half a million apps available, with games the most popular section
Half a million apps are now available on the apple App Store.
An infographic on Facebook by Chomp, 148 Apps and Chillingo shows also shows the split of those apps.
15 percent of all the apps on the App Store are games, while books make up 14 per cent, entertainment 11 percent, education 8 per cent, lifestyle 7 per cent and utilities 6 per cent. The others make up the 10 percent like this:

- Reference 4 per cent
- Business 4 per cent
- Sports 3 per cent
- News 3 per cent
- Productivity 3 per cent
- Healthcare 2 per cent
- Navigation 2 per cent
- Photography 2 per cent

- Social networking 2 per cent
- Medical 2 per cent
- Weather 0 per cent
Other information from the infographic showed Apple has worked with 85,569 developers and 37 per cent of all apps are free.
Angry Birds has the record amount of time at number one in the app Store, with 275 days at number one. This is second to The Moron Test which spent 38 days at number one.
The battle to 500,000 apps was pretty fast. The App Store was launched in July 2008 with just 500 apps. It took until November 2009 before Apple hit the 100,00 app mark, then four months until there were 200,000 apps available in April 2010. 350,000 apps was reached in January 2011 and then the milestone, 500,000 this month.
App prices have remained steady over the past three years, although they were priced a little higher when the App Store first launched. If you bought every app on the app Store, it would cost you $891,982.24. $3.64 is the average price for an app on the App Store, with more paid apps available than free apps.
